Feeling overwhelmed with social media? Here are 10 social media tips for your small business.

If you're a small business owner, you probably already know how important social media is as a way to connect with your customers. But with so many platforms and an overwhelming amount of advice out there, it can be tricky to know what to focus on can't it?

I’ve put together 10 great tips to help you get the most out of your social media presence.

1. Don’t try and do it all!

It can be tempting to try and be on ALL social media platforms but spreading yourself so thinly across multiple platforms will just leave you with social media fatigue (yes this is a ‘thing’!) Instead, think about where are your ideal clients hanging out, and focus on 2-3 platforms. This way you can spend more QUALITY time connecting with customers rather than lesser quality content everywhere.

2. Own Your Personality

Your social media accounts are a great opportunity to show the human side of your business. Let your customers get to know the people behind the product or service, and don't be afraid to show some personality! After all, generally people want to do business with people, not faceless companies.

3. Use Insights/basic reports to see what’s working

Most social media platforms have built-in insights or reporting tools that can help you track your progress and see what's working (and what isn't.) It’s helpful to use these tools to your advantage, which of your posts are getting the most engagement? Which posts are reaching the most people? Once you know, you can do more of these sort of posts!

4. Use social media to give great customer service

In today's world, customers expect—and appreciate—great customer service, even on social media. If someone has a question or concern about your product or service, make sure you respond promptly if you can. You can also use social media as an opportunity to proactively address any potential issues customers may have.

5. Be Authentic

When it comes down to it, people want to do business with companies they trust—and one of the best ways to build trust is by being authentic. Showing the genuine, human side of your business will go a long way in connecting with your customers and building long-lasting relationships.

6. Give Your Followers Value

Give your followers a reason to keep on following you! Make sure you're providing value for your followers by sharing relevant, interesting content that they'll actually want to read (and maybe even share!). Whether it's helpful tips and advice, exclusive discounts, or sneak peeks of new products or services, giving your followers something extra will show them that you care about more than just making a sale.

7. Schedule your posts

There are a multitude of fantastic (free) schedulers out there. Planning and scheduling your content ahead of time will mean you’re not spending 24/7 thinking about marketing your business and will ensure you have a consistent presence rather than posting on the spot whenever you have the time.

8. Look at other accounts for inspiration

What are other businesses similar to your own doing on social media? What type of content are they creating that you could create too? Get scrolling & be inspired!

9. Mix up your formats

Try and include a range of content – reels, stories, static images & carousels. Keep it interesting & keep your followers interestED!

10. Have a plan

What are your goals for social media? Who are you trying target/speak to? What are you trying to achieve? Having a strategy or a list of goals and objectives will really help you focus on what you’re posting and why.
